The timing of Mohammed Shami’s comeback to the Indian Twenty20 International squad is likely to be pushed out even more. We have learned that the pacer has not entirely recovered from the Covid infection that forced him to miss the recently finished series against Australia.

The illness caused him to be sidelined. Consequently, Shami could not be available for the three Twenty20 Internationals that South Africa hosts beginning on Wednesday (September 28).

And so might Deepak Hooda, who is now sidelined with a back issue and thus was not able to participate in the match that decided the championship on Sunday in Hyderabad.

Both Teams Have Reached the Destination

To clear up any confusion, Shami has not made the trip to Thiruvananthapuram, which is the location of the opening match and where the Indian team arrived on Monday evening. Umesh Yadav, who was declared as a substitute for Shami, has traveled with the squad.

This is an indicator that he will also be a part of the three-match series that will be played in South Africa. Since Sunday, the South African squad has been in the city of Kerala where the match is being held.

It is common knowledge that there has not yet been a decision made about whether or not Shami would be permitted to accompany the Indian team to Australia for the World Cup. A person familiar with the situation shared their insight, stating, “There is no medical update on the time that it will take for him to be totally fit but now it does not seem good.”

Shami is one of the four players that will be on standby for the World Cup. Since the conclusion of the World Cup in the UAE, Shami has not participated in a Twenty20 International. His most recent international match, which took place in July and was an away ODI against England, was his last.

Some Players Did Not Reach Due to Injuries

In the meanwhile, Hooda has sustained an injury to his back, and the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has announced that he would not be eligible for selection for the third Twenty20 International that will take place on Sunday in Hyderabad against Australia.

In a statement released on Sunday, the BCCI said that “Deepak Hooda was not available for selection for this game due to a back ailment.”

It has come to our knowledge that Hooda may need medical treatment for the injuries he sustained, and the National Cricket Academy is where he received his training.

Something Can Happen Event at the End

In addition, he has not made the trip to Thiruvananthapuram; thus, Shreyas Iyer, who was previously named as a backup for the series, is a potential candidate to take Hooda’s position.

However, there is currently no evidence available that can immediately confirm whether or not the World Cup team will undergo any alterations. At this point in the process, it seems as if all of the chosen players will be able to make the trip.

After the last game of the South Africa series, which will take place in Indore on October 4, the Indian squad will depart for Australia on October 6. The World Cup kicks off on October 16, but India will not play their first game until the following week on October 23.
