New Zealand has re-called fast bowler Adam Milne for the T20 World Cup despite his Achilles injury keeping him out of action on previous trips. Milne participated in last year’s UAE tournament after being called up to replace Lockie Ferguson.
He has collected 32 wickets in 31 T20 Internationals, at an average of 26.68, despite having an injury-plagued career. Together with Ferguson, Tim Southee, and Trent Boult, he is one of the team’s primary speed options.
Gary Stead, New Zealand’s coach, said the team is waiting to see how Milne performs in the next tri-series against Pakistan and Bangladesh before declaring him fit for the World Cup.

“That’s the last thing we can do to make sure he’s on the same page as us, I suppose. The fact that he was chosen suggests that we think he’ll be prepared.” Players Finn Allen and Michael Bracewell, both making their World Cup debuts, are also part of the final 15-man roster.
While Mark Chapman and Ish Sodhi are still on the roster, wicketkeeper Devon Conway will be in the spotlight. Neither Allen nor Glenn Phillips is a glove specialist, but Stead said they might fill in if required in place of Conway.
We thought Devon did an excellent job in goal at the previous World Cup, and he will likely have to make even fewer saves in Australia. Allen, the powerful opening batsman, has gotten off to a good start in his international career.
He has scored 101 runs off 56 balls against Scotland in a Twenty20 International match and batted 169.54 in his 13 T20I appearances.
The tri-series will be used to fine-tune plans, including the combination they go with at the top of the order, with Allen, Conway, Kane Williamson, and Martin Guptill all possibilities. Stead said he has a first-choice 12 in mind for the World Cup.
Daryl Mitchell’s position in the lineup will be somewhere in the center. When asked about the opening, he remarked, “I’ll keep those cards close to my chest on what we will do, but believe we’ll see throughout the tri-series we’ll be trying a few different folks there.”
With his back still bothering him after a recent injury in England, Kyle Jamieson was not even considered for the team.
Guptill Is The Only Kiwi To Play In Seven T20 World Cups
When Guptill takes the field in the next T20 World Cup, he will make history as the first Kiwi to play in seven separate T20 World Cups. Extra players may be brought in to manage the workloads of those traveling to Australia.
But the same group will play the T20 tri-series with Pakistan and Bangladesh early next month in Christchurch. In addition to providing valuable playing time, the next matches will allow the team to fine-tune its combination and game plan before heading to Australia, as Stead put it. On October 22, New Zealand will face host nation Australia at the SCG to kick off their T20 World Cup campaign.
